Working in a home studio, Sandra produces her work at a full-time scale, aggressively pursuing a common thread until it is worn away, leaving her to begin on a new path. Holder of a bachelor degree in Visual Arts and Media from UQAM this young self-taught artist.
Sandra’s new series “cages” is about women trying to find freedom from the cages of society’s twisted preconceptions of what a woman should or shouldn’t be. These women encased in these cages of brash imposing paint that masks their very personhood symbolizes the struggle that women go through with having these cages of this expectation of false beauty and perfection on them and of the limitations society places on them, corrupting what truly makes women beautiful by putting them in these prisons of identity.
A dance between reality and imagination, truth and deception, cure and poison.
